If you’ve got a terrific chili recipe you’d like to share, here’s your opportunity.  Whether it’s the authentic Texas-style chili or your own homespun chili with beans, it doesn’t matter.  The judges will test them all.  If you are deemed the winner, you’ll go home with a blue ribbon and Feast bragging rights. Please bring your chili fully cooked and ready for judging.  There is no electricity at the picnic site.  You will need to bring your own utensils and other items needed for serving, as well as a way to keep your chili warm.  A few two-burner propane camp stoves will be available.  If you have one that you can bring and share it would be greatly appreciated.  Bowls, spoons, etc. will be provided for the judges.

A weenie roast will coincide with the chili cook-off, so they’ll be plenty to eat. The chili from the competition may be used as a topping for those who prefer chilidogs.  The hot dogs, buns, condiments, plates, cups, napkins, flatware, ice, and beverages will be provided.  We’re asking that you fill in the gaps with chips, dip, side dishes, and dessert as a complement to the entrée.  On Sunday, October 4 through Monday, October 5, 2009, sign-up sheets will be provided for both attendance and for any food items you will be bringing.  The following charge will apply for each car entering the park:  $8.00 (2-8 passengers), $4.00 (single occupant), $2.00 (pedestrians, bicyclists, or each additional passenger above eight.)  Please remember:  No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park.

Blessing of the Little Children

“And they brought young children to Him, that He should touch them: and His disciples rebuked those that brought them.  But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, “Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not:  for of such is the kingdom of God.  Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.”  And He took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them.” (Mark 10:13-16)

In keeping with Christ’s example, the Blessing of the Children will be held during services, Friday, October 9, 2009.  If you do not have a minister in your immediate area to perform this special ceremony, please bring your children and/or grandchildren to participate in this very meaningful service.

Pirate Ship Cruise

We’ve not taken the Sea Dragon Pirate Ship Cruise in a few years, so we thought the kids would like to experience the fun again.  Adults can have fun too!  Most enjoy sitting on the top deck relaxing and sipping cocktails while watching the kids swab the deck below.  Children are treated to a swashbuckling adventure where they get to play like pirates, participate in a water gun battle and look for sunken treasure.  An added treat is usually the sighting of dolphins and other marine life.  We will embark from Lighthouse Marina on Friday, October 9, 2009, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Please arrive by 3:30 PM for boarding.  Tickets may be purchased at the gate:  Adults and Seniors (60+) - $19.00, Children (3-14) $17.00, Small Children (1-2) $11.00.

Bible Study

Is there a better way to begin a Holy Day than with a study of God’s Word?  We will have a Bible Study on Friday, October 9, 2009 at The Boardwalk Beach Resort and Conference Center, Salons 1-4, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  Make plans to attend this educational and uplifting event, which will be hosted by minister, Mr. Jim Josephsen.

Group Meal — NEW THIS YEAR!

Saturday, October 10, 2009, 5:00 PM.  This is an informal gathering of the brethren who decide to remain through the end of The Last Great Day instead of heading home following services.  In the past, many have been unaware that some of us extend our stay and get together to “break bread” one last time before returning home.  You are welcome to join us.  Please listen to announcements for specific details.
