As you begin your study of the Healing doctrine, you will soon realize there is much more here than having the experience of calling an elder when you sick. Healing has linkage to a number of important spiritual elements. In fact, Jesus used miracle of healing to establish much of this linkage. Through healing, He demonstrates:| that God sent Him | ||
| He is the Son of God | ||
| the Kingdom will be established on earth | ||
| His power on earth | ||
| His authority over the Sabbath | ||
| His power over Satan and the demons | ||
| the forgiveness of sins | ||
| the cleansing of sinners in spirit | ||
| the resurrection of the dead | ||
In addition, we see
direct connection to salvation, faith, prayer, overcoming sin, the
gospel and the entire plan of God. Beginning with the
return of Jesus Christ, we see the ultimate healing in the
first resurrection of the dead. The millennial Kingdom
will be witness to the healing of the entire planet and all
the humans who live through tribulation.
Many of the spiritual concepts we are hearing preached today
in the church are actually forms of healing. The
Matthew 18 scriptures, outlining what to do when offended by
a brother in the faith is actually a process designed to
save a brother and heal a relationship. The
administrative act of disfellowshiping a member is procedure
borne in the hope that he will allow God to heal him from
his backsliding ways.
| To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. –1 Cor 5:5 |
The
word "saved" is "sozo" and is
discussed in the doctrine. It means to "heal"
or 'save from eternal death". So we can easily see
that the Salvation Process is, in many ways, a healing
process of our human nature and prolonged exposure to
worldliness and the influences of Satan.
Repentance is pardon and through repentance we
experience a remission of sins. Both repentance
and remission of sins [see
Luke
24:47] is a form of healing; an opportunity for
healing. And, of course, the Sabbath is form of
physical and spiritual healing, resting and refreshing
from the six days of labor and being in the world.
In Revelation 21 and 22, we read of new heavens, new
earth and a new Jerusalem. Everything is
completely healed prior to the establishment of God's
throne on earth. The description we read in
Revelation 22 is one of healing for all.
| And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. –Rev 22:1-2 |
Practical conclusions from the
doctrine
We now want to look at several of the conclusions we can
gather from this rather extensive doctrine.
| Source of Healing | Healing is a miracle of God | See 1 |
| Cause of sickness | There are many different causes. Sin is only one. Most instances are self-generated through ignorance, error or neglect. | See 48 |
| Healing is more than physical | The concept of healing goes beyond the physical to the mental, emotional and spiritual. It speaks to ultimate salvation, forgiveness of sins and the resurrection of the dead. See Meaning of the Word |
See 67 |
| Medical Science | No where in the Bible will you see Jesus Christ or any scripture condemning medical science or medicine. See Medical Science | |
| Faith | Faith is not the sole criteria determining whether a person shall be healed. | See 1 |
| Faith is essential to the forgiveness of sins. | See 61 | |
| Faith is not a guarantee one will be healed. | See 125 | |
| There are different levels of faith. | See 96 | |
| The faith needed for salvation may not be the same faith needed for healing | See 96 | |
| God does everything according to His will. His will trumps our faith. That is, what God ultimately does may not be predicated on our faith. | See 101 | |
| Going to medical science is not a lack of faith. | See 100 | |
| Lack of faith or a lack of healing is not a sin | See 98 | |
| Healings Today | It is hard to tell if the number and frequency of healings is more or less than in the 1st century as today they are not done in dramatic public style. | See 84 |
| God vs. Medical Science | Faith in God does not conflict with use of medical science. | See 1 |
| Whatever medical science does will not interfere with God's healing or intervention. | See 40 | |
| What can be healed | God can heal people, animals, objects, the earth, water, air, food, minds, spiritual problems, marriages, financial situations and nations [to mention a few]. | See 6 |

Death is not
defeat or loss |
Death is sometimes the greater sign of faith than life and healing. Death ends all disease and suffering. The next conscious moment for the firstfruit is eternal life. God uses death to confirm members to the Family of God. | See 114 |
| Healing vs. spiritual maturity | Whether one is healed or not has nothing to do with spiritual maturity. | See 89 |
| Your personal elements of belief | Do not attempt to convert or influence others to your opinions and beliefs about health or healing. See Doctrine vs. Personal Elements of Belief [PEB]. | |
| Your Reward | Your reward in the Kingdom is not based on whether you were healed or not. | See 88 |
| My Responsibility | The firstfruit member has many responsibilities regarding healing and health. See Member Responsibility | |
| What to do | See the Healing Checklist | |
His healing represents God's power
through Jesus Christ to forgive our sins, cleanse our
minds and, ultimately, establish the Kingdom of God on
earth and resurrect our bodies from the dead.
