Is getting saved easier than falling off a slippery log in a turgid mill stream with greased banana peels strapped to your feet? The idea is that all you have to do is say, "I believe", and presto-change-o, abracadabra boom, you're in there - you're already on your way to see Saint Peter at the pearly gates. Then we hear the jokes like the good news and the bad news: the good news is they play golf in heaven; the bad news is T-off time for you is next Thursday at 10 am. Then there are the jokes about the other place, like the guy who was so surprised when he arrived in hell because everyone was skating around on ice, until someone told him the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup. Those traditional concepts about going to heaven and hell are not accurate. In the first place, the Kingdom of God will be established on this earth (Rev. 5:10), and the idea of an ever burning hell came from pagan philosophers of dim ages past because those few who end up there will be destroyed (Rev. 20:14). It is true we are saved by grace, but most read Ephesians 2:8,9 and refuse to quote verse 10 which states, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them". We are saved by grace, but we shall be rewarded according to our works (Rev. 22:12). Moses brought the 10 commandments down from the mountain-not the 10 suggestions. In Matthew 5:17 Christ said, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law..." and right away many people think he did come to destroy the law. He said, "If you love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). He said, "if you will enter into life, keep the commandments" (Matt. 19:17). "He that saith, `I know him', and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him" (1 John 2:4). Those who think the law is done away are in for a major surprise when judgment day gets here (Heb. 8:10).
