Acts card 0015

Day of Atonement

Acts 27:7-9
7 And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;
8 And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.
9 Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them.

Acts 27:9----Commentaries
[Because the fast was now already past] By the "fast" here is evidently intended the fast which occurred among the Jews on the great day of atonement. --(Barnes' Notes)

It is generally allowed that the fast mentioned here was that of the great day of atonement which was always celebrated on the tenth day of the seventh month.
(from Adam Clarke's Commentary)

The fast to which Luke refers is the Day of Atonement. --(Wycliffe Bible Commentary)
