Holy Day Series:  Passover:  Feeling unworthy    [card 1 of this series]

A number of people have contacted us over the years stating they will not partake of the bread and wine at Passover.

Reason: Perceived sin in their lives. They feel their current battle to overcome sin makes them unworthy. They feel that their current battle to overcome sin makes them unworthy.

However, being subject to sin does NOT make one unworthy. Here are the verses, which cause so much concern.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. -1 Cor 11:27-29

Verses 27 and 29 sometimes scare people because they think personal sin somehow makes one unworthy of the bread and wine.

Verse 28 says that we are to examine ourselves. What is it we are examining? Are we to examine ourselves to determine whether we have sinned or not? Are we to examine ourselves to determine whether we are sinners? Answer: Absolutely NOT.

Holy Day Series - Card 1 - continued

There is only one thing for which a person must examine themselves. There is only one question to answer.

"Am I or am I not in the Salvation Process?" This is a lifelong process. While in it, one continues to be a sinner and is subject to sin. The key is that the person is working to overcome sin step-by-step and day-by-day while IN that process. The person repents of sin. That is, he or she is repentant.

When we go to examine ourselves on a daily basis and prior to the Passover, simply determine if you are in the Process. If one is honest with themselves, this is easy to do.

Once a person determines the answer to the question is Yes, they are to take of that bread and wine with boldness...

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. -Heb 4:16
